All coaches and assistant coaches in the league must be trained in Community Sport Initiation or CSI (minimum requirement). Coaches are encouraged to find a trained replacement for any practices that conflict with the timing of the clinic. The deadline to complete this training is December 15, 2018.

All high performance coaches must be certified in Competition- Introduction.

All coaches need to create a profile on www.coachingringette.ca to register for clinics. When you create a profile, it will automatically generate an NCCP number for you. If you’ve already taken NCCP training you should be sure to include your number when you create a profile so you don’t have 2 numbers. If you think you have a number but don’t know what it is, visit The Locker (the NCCP database) as there are multiple options there to find your number, https://thelocker.coach.ca/account/login?ReturnUrl=%2f. If you still can't find your number, contact the office, vvuillemot @sportpei.pe.ca.

In order to complete CSI training there are 4 steps to complete:
  1. Coach Initiation eModule- this is done online through your Locker profile. You won’t be able to register for clinics until this is complete. This module will be free during National Coaches Week, September 22-30, 2018. (At other times, the cost is $15. Please check with your club as some reimburse this cost.)
  2. Multisport Make Ethical Decisions Module- this used to be part of the CSI clinic but is not any longer. It is being offered during the Coaching Workshop on October 21st at 1pm. It is 3 hours. Information on the workshop can be found here, including the link to register: http://ringettepei.ca/news.php?news_id=1703947 You may have already taken this as part of another sport's NCCP training. If that is the case, you need to send your NCCP number so it can be verified and you will be credited. Coaching PEI also offers this course regularly (next scheduled courses is November 28th and December 19th, details are here).
  3. Online evaluation for Make Ethical Decisions- you need to complete the online evaluation for the MED clinic in order to finalize your training. Your training is not complete until this step is taken. It takes about 45 minutes online to complete and is offered through the Locker.
  4. Community Sport Initiation (CSI) clinic- this is an 8 hour clinic which includes 1 hour of ice time (or gym time).

  2. Competition Introduction Clinic- this is a 2 day clinic with 16 hours of classroom time and 2 on-ice sessions.
  3. Online evaluation for Make Ethical Decisions- you need to complete the online evaluation for the MED clinic in order to finalize your training. Your training is not complete until this step is taken. It takes about 45 minutes online to complete.
  4. Competition Introduction Evaluation- you will need to register online for an evaluator and complete your workbook. Once your workbook is acceptable, you will be evaluated on-ice during a practice. When this step is complete, you will be fully certified at the Competition-Introduction level.
*Coaches who have not already done so will need to complete the Coach Initiation eModule and Make Ethical Decisions as well.

There is also a Coaching Workshop on Sunday, October 21, 2018 starting at 1:00pm. This workshop will cover a range of topics and counts as professional development points to maintain your training. It is not the same as the NCCP coaching clinics listed above.

Professional Development
The Coaches Association of Canada encourages the ongoing learning of coaches in order to maintain your training status. This is done through the accumulation of Professional Development points.

In order to maintain your CSI trained status, coaches in ringette must accumulate 10 points every 5 years. Anyone who was trained in 2014 or before, has a December 31st deadline this year to log their points in the Locker.

Don't panic if you don't have the points yet as there are many options to engage in ongoing learning including the RPEI Coaches Workshop on October 21st (sign-up). You can also take online concussion training in the Locker called Making Head Way. Respect in Sport and High Five are also ways to earn PD points. Finally, in your Locker profile coaches can self-report their active coaching years which can be used for up to 5 points.
