U12 Development

Ringette PEI is now accepting athlete registrations for the U12 Development Program for the 2020-2021 season. The deadline to register is Friday, October 23rd at midnight.
  • The program will operate Saturday mornings at 10:10am and 11:20am out of the Morell Community Rink, initial startup date will be Saturday, October 31st.
  • Additional ice times and games may be scheduled throughout the season.
The Development Program

This program is open to U12 aged players (born in 2009 or 2010) who want to increase their strong base of ringette skills. Players should be committed to attending weekly ice times and be motivated to build their existing ringette skills. Athletes also have to remain in good standing with their club association and strive to demonstrate the Long Term Athletic Development core principles of Integrity, Excellence, Teamwork, Respect, Human Development, Fun and Safety.

To start, all applicants will take part in a skating assessment and a game play assessment to determine their level of ringette skills. These assessments will be used to determine the athletes accepted into the 2020-2021 program. The program will have representation from all club associations, assuming athletes meet the minimum skill levels required to participate. Due to facility size and COVID-19 gathering restrictions, only 48 ATHLETES will be accepted into the 2020-2021 program.

The program will include approximately 20 training sessions, led by a team of coaches, roughly 1 per week. The program will focus on increasing skills and preparing players for High Performance team training as they get older.

The Program will be conducted in multiple phases; Phase 1 being skating and game play assessments to determine entrance into the core program; Phase 2 will be approximately four to six sessions where the coaches will continue to assess the athletes; Phase 3 all athletes will continue with skill development.

Teams will be developed as the season progresses. These teams will participate in inter-squad games. There will also be a possibility of playing other Atlantic teams as long as Atlantic Bubble travel is permitted and other teams are available.

The cost to participate in the development program this season will vary. There will be an initial cost of $135 to cover the weekly ice times once the core 48 athletes have been chosen. Those players participating in games will pay an additional fee. Expected additional cost is in the $100-$200 range, but will be determined following the first initial sessions.

The development program will focus on skill development and is meant to encourage more players to reach higher levels. The program was developed with Long Term Athlete Development principles in mind, which stress the overall well-being of the athletes over the long term, rather than short term competitive goals.

Due to the number of athletes participating in the program, it will be necessary to divide into two ice sessions. The way the groups are divided for each session will change. The division will occasionally be based on the alphabet but will also be scheduled around club association ice times. The group may also be divided for specific positional practices (offense/defense) or other configurations as determined by the coaching staff.
