RPEI COVID-19 Update

Ringette PEI Update Regarding COVID-19 Pandemic

Effective Friday, March 13, all Ringette PEI house league activities (games, practices, off-ice team activities) for the 2019-20 season are cancelled. All high performance activities (Wave, Edge & Development) activities are suspended indefinitely.

At this point in time, Ringette Canada has not yet delivered a national directive regarding RC sanctioned ringette activity. While they continue to discuss potential measure from the NSO (national sport organization) perspective, they are advising PSOs that we follow the advice of our provincial governments and health care offices. As the decision surrounding the continuation of programming lies at the PSO (provincial sport organization) level, Ringette PEI is only able to cancel activity fully under our jurisdiction—which is the rationale behind the distinct house league and high performance messaging. RPEI will continue to share more information around the plans for the Canadian Ringette Championships and the Eastern Canadian Ringette Championships once they are known.

Ringette PEI is somewhat fortunate that our house league schedule is entering a planned blackout for March Break. However this blackout is the result of many teams often missing players due to travel—which presents an increased risk to our ringette community upon the return of these participants. Additional consideration contributing to this decision was given to the availability of ice rentals in our rural ringette communities. Given the timing of this health crisis, it was not prudent to delay ringette play-offs and championships as many of our facilities normally wrap-up operations in late March.
